2012 World Championship of Ski Mountaineering

The 2012 World Championship of Ski Mountaineering (German: Weltmeisterschaft im Skibergsteigen 2012) will be the second World Championship of Ski Mountaineering sanctioned by the International Ski Mountaineering Federation (ISMF), successor organization of the International Council for Ski Mountaineering Competitions (ISMC). The competition will be held in the region around Schladming, Austria. The 2012 championships will be the first ones, which are not held in the Western Alps or in the Pyrenees.

Also discussed was to carry out the championship in Claut, Italy.[1] Austria got the acceptance of the UIAA in due to the good organizations and realizations of the Dachstein Xtreme races by the national ski mountaineering organization ASKIMO, as well as in consequence of the Austrian national squad's successes in international competitions.

Schladming was also elected for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2013 shortly before on May 29, 2008.[2]
